Some examples of FocusFX.nl Gray Cards in use

Below you will find some practical examples of photos corrected with
the FocusFX.nl Gray Card (also called White Balance Reference card).
These examples will show you how our Gray Cards can be used for getting the
correct White Balance in a series of photos taken in the same light conditions.
It only takes a few quick and easy steps (see our FAQ for detailed explanation)
to get perfectly correct and natural colors in your photos!

Grayscale

Adjust your monitor to the point where you can see all the steps of this grayscale.

Original reference photo

Esmee Reference Before

(photo made by Douwe Attema / model: Esmee)

This photo is the so called reference photo which will be used to correct a series
of photos taken in the same light conditions.
Please notice the FocusFX.nl Gray Card which is put somewhere near the model or subject.
It is also possible to hold it yourself in front of the lens as can be seen here.
The White Balance is calculated by the camera and has not been corrected yet.
Colors do not look natural (too much yellow).

Type of photo: RAW
White Balance used: Automatic
White Balance Corrected: No (camera calculated value)

Corrected reference photo

Esmee Reference After

(photo made by Douwe Attema / model: Esmee)

This photo is the same reference photo as above but now the White Balance is
corrected in a picture editor using the FocusFX.nl Gray Card as a reference for
getting the correct White Balance value. Colors look correct and natural.
Now we can use the White Balance value of this reference photo to correct the
White Balance value of a series of photos taken in the same light conditions.

Type of photo: RAW
White Balance used: Automatic
White Balance Corrected: Yes (using the FocusFX.nl Gray Card as reference)

Esmee Before and After

Corrected series of photos

Esmee After 1

Esmee After 2

Esmee After 3

(photos made by Douwe Attema / model: Esmee)

The White Balance value for all these photos is copied from the reference photo
with a few simple mouse clicks. Notice the correct colors which seem very natural.
They are exactly the same as in reality at the time the photos were taken.
So no more guessing to get the correct White Balance value! Just use a FocusFX.nl
Gray Card and with a few mouse clicks you get staggering natural colors in your photos!

Type of photo: RAW
White Balance used: Automatic
White Balance Corrected: Yes (value copied from reference photo)

Another example

Below you can see how subtle the correction of the value for the White Balance
can be when you use the FocusFX.nl Gray Card.

Corrected with the FocusFX.nl Gray Card

(photo made by Frank Doorhof / model: Rachma)

The value for the White Balance is corrected using the FocusFX.nl Gray Card
as a reference. Colors look correct and natural.

Type of photo: RAW
White Balance used: Automatic
White Balance Corrected: Yes (using the FocusFX.nl Gray Card as reference)

Crops from photo above corrected with different methods

Corrected with the FocusFX.nl Gray Card in
a RAW-converter.

Notice the natural and saturated colors.

Corrected with Autocolor in Adobe Photoshop CS2
without the use of the FocusFX.nl Gray Card.

Colors are not saturated and the hue is different
than the colors in the correct photo.
Colors seem to be too yellow.

Corrected with Set Graypoint in Adobe Photoshop CS2
without the use of the FocusFX.nl Gray Card.

Colors seem to be quite correct but they miss
the saturation and hue of the correct photo.

In the samples above you can see the advantages of the FocusFX.nl Gray Cards.
In a simple manner it is possible to get correct saturated colors with the right amount
of hue, all this without having to gamble with all different settings.
It only takes a few quick and easy steps to get perfectly correct and natural colors
in your photos! (see our FAQ for detailed explanation).
